Re: CW Mode Operation

As a starter I find odd things like this need to be done by wholesale changes ... so what I'd do is this: -go back to USB -set the frequency to 14050 -turn off the noise abatement stuff - everything off. -click the "imabic" button -click the breakin button -click the sidetone -CTUN off -RX...

Re: PowerSDR mRX Transmit Audio Setup

Scott, Forgive my ignorance .... just to be sure I understand. So IF I want to use PS, which was one of the top of the list items for getting the radio, I can't "hear" what I sound like using MON - correct? If the answer is yes then let me ask this: if I turn PS off and listen to my signal...

Re: IMPORTANT UPDATE/DO NOT USE: 7000DLE fan noise fix

Volker, Not sure if Scott is going to want to move this but - use DIG2 as an external keyer? Why would you put the radio in DIG mode to use it in CW? What am I missing? I DO have a microHAM Keyer II and I was not able to get N1MM+ to work driving the radio on CW ... not sure if this applies or not. ...

Re: "Sticking" Relay on ADC 1 and 2 Receive

I've seen this myself on RX2 - a good number of times. One of these days I'll not be in QSO and I'll try to track it down leaving it that way... but definitely it loses the antenna and cycling the PTT corrects it.

Re: NB/NB2 and Pan display on SSB-TX jumps around

Chris: Yes - that is what I'm talking about.... based on your findings it's more than likely a result of processing the RX signal and how its handled/impacted with NB/2 on ... That's good to know. So "correcting" it would involve figuring out why its impacted with these on ... or since tim...

Re: NB/NB2 and Pan display on SSB-TX jumps around

I'll see if i can get a friend to monitor for me. I'll of course report back here. I do have a second radio - a Yaesu FTdx5000 but I have removed its pan 'stuff' (LP-Pan and Xonar X7 and software) since I've gone 100% Anan ... I can however tune off frequency to see if I can hear any additional spla...

Re: NB/NB2 and Pan display on SSB-TX jumps around

Yes - that's it - but I see it with PS off as well so I don't think there is any dependency there... note if I'm running both RXs and I turn RX2/NB2 on it doesn't do it - only with RX1-NB2. I think the simplest solution would be to turn NB/NB2 off while transmitting ... or of course find what is cau...

NB/NB2 and Pan display on SSB-TX jumps around

For me at least - if I have either NB or NB2 turned on and transmit on SSB the displayed transmit waveform will jump around as I talk... vs. if I turn NB/NB2 off it is stable. My suggestion is for the software to turn off NB/NB2 while transmitting ... note this is independent of PureSignal and is ho...

Re: Pure Signal Issue

Scott, I have to say this is the one thing I find very frustrating about PowerSDR ... the interdependencies can be so high ... I am and have been seeing the jumps, as far as I remember, since day one - just like other issues I've described that you were not able to duplicate - they ARE real ... and ...

Re: CW Mode Operation

not sure why the suggestion is or the focus went to the dot or dash lines - if they were pulled down then the radio would be producing dots or dashes! My understanding is that it is just going to TX period, "as if we pressed MOX button" ... if these lines go directly to the FPGA (whether t...

Re: Pure Signal Issue

Scott, Not sure what you're saying ... "you may well be correct" and then followed by "no combination... makes the display jump around on TX"? My post is there because it DOES indeed make it jump around! Are you saying yours doesn't? When I say 'jump around' what I'm saying is it...

Re: Pure Signal Issue

Re: PowerSDR mRX PS 3.4.7 Released

Ah - so a subset of my rationale ... and good to know about the interface. Indeed i can see with various skins available out there (and I DO take advantage of them - thanks to Rob, '1AEX and ... the IV3 (forgive me - not at the radio) ... that it would be involved to say the least. I'd guess this is...

Re: PowerSDR mRX PS 3.4.7 Released

Re: PowerSDR mRX PS 3.4.7 Released

Hello Doug, Saw your post today .... if I understand you’ve gone back to the way it was – LOCK locks BOTH VFO A and B? I had, a while back, asked to provide a separate lock for each VFO. I believe it makes no sense to lock BOTH of them! If one is using VFO B often it is because one is doing split/Mu...

Re: Quick record on AM

I would however suggest that there isn't anything that mentions the use of QUICK REC/PLAY and just looking at the results on the pan during play - and in so doing not to expect this to be 'meaningful' ... I've had the radio operational since May or early June and have tried to get this 'resolved' ov...

Re: Quick record on AM

Rob, Well that's exactly how I thought it would - should work ... are you saying that listening to it, i.e hitting "PLAY" without being in TX is not what it is suppose to support? As that is all I've ever done. After hearing what it does - plays back at a very high volume, I've always been...

Re: Pure Signal Issue

just a precaution - it might not effect what you're doing but I noticed a couple things: 1) I know that if you have some (all?) of the noise abatement stuff on the panadapter will be effected on transmit. Mostly I notice that if NB2 is on that the xmit waveform gets bounced around instead of being s...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

You know Keith I do find at times the NB2 doesn't do anything - so obviously the algorithm is designed for a specific noise profile ... most of the time it does work and when so it works extremely well - as mentioned previously I've seen a 12 db decrease in the noise floor on 6 and 10 meters. I play...

Re: ADC1 Overload

Mike, you mention an antenna connected to ADC2. Are you sure its ADC1 and not 2 that is showing the overload?! If you have ADC2 set so that its not grounded on TX it can be overloaded. Note I don't think there's anything "special" about DIG mode re ADC1 overload. Its transmit period that w...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

Agreed - it doesn't sound a whole lot different than NR2 when used with a loud signal .... note that at least for my analysis I'm strictly speaking of noise reduction in an effort to increase the S/N on a WEAK signal ... I don't really see any point in worrying about this when the signal is loud to ...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

I ask this only to be thorough - I'd hazard a guess you know this - but when you say "along with 40m after 9pm" that seems to me to imply not 'noise' that the NB is designed to deal with but random band noise. At night of course 40 and 80 'go long' and storms and the like can all mash up t...

and let me finish with ... I tried testing on a SSB signal that was just above the noise. Without any noise abatement: the station is at best an R3 (readability 3) but most of the time unreadable. I can tell its there ... that's about it. With NR2: station remains at an R3 With NB2: station is easil...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

a quick note - I am using NB2 right now on 10 meters ... in one direction the noise, whatever its coming from (yet to seek out) is quite bad ... NB2 reduces it by 13 db! That is BIG! The difference between NO contacts and many... it produces a curve on the panadapter when I'm using USB (96Khz width)...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

As purely a DXer ... one that doesn't rag chew much at all ... (I'm polite - but I don't generally go over 5 minutes or so) ... and that is often listening to weak signals I think NR2 is most often not called for. I will add one important point: NR2 works best when QSB isn't in play . Otherwise sinc...

Re: Noise Blanker ineffective

I had posted a response to this but for whatever reason it never showed up.... I have a different take from you and Scott - I find the NB2 NB to be fantastic - or at least quite a bit superior to the one on the FTdx5000 (which was better than the Icom ProIII it replaced). I've compared the 2, the 5K...
