Re: ALC with Amplifiers? No, and why. . .

"CESSB and RF gain variations over frequency have nothing to do with the issue". Huh? It was the very reason ALC came into being, but write the history any way you want. . . All of my comments were in the context of the Anan radios, which provide all of the functionality you noted. WRT CES...

ALC with Amplifiers? No, and why. . .

From time to time I receive inquiries about an ALC board I designed for the Anan transceivers some years back. Here is the full response: I have been involved in the design, testing and use of Commercial and Military SSB exciters and amplifiers since 1966, so there is no part of this concept of whic...

Re: CPU Recommendation: 2700X

Rob... I'm sure your aware of the new SSD form factor name, but for those who may not it is referred to as M.2 SSD. The M.2 cards utilize the PCI Express bus rather than the eSATA bus which bottle necks the speed of SSD. M.2 SSD drives are up to five times faster than eSATA SSD drives for not much ...

CPU Recommendation: 2700X

I recently built up a new PC with a water cooled Ryzen 2700X and 32GB of 3200MHz RAM on an X470 chipset. It is a beast! Latency is low, and stays low with all loads, and and you hardly notice when HPSDR is running. Great LTSpice performance too -- highly recommended.

Thetis needs a new name!

It turns out Thetis roughly equals Titanic as an unlucky name:

Re: SDR Angelia and PA Hilberling HPA-8000B

The USB-to-Serial Port adapters using the FTDI chipset work very well with ham gear and apps, and are more convenient that adding a card. You can find them with 1, 2 or 4 serial ports from a single USB port.

Re: Disable Screen Blanking?

Go into Preferences -> Power Manager and click on the Display tab. You can then disable the Power Management and set the screen blanking to Never. -- John g0orx/n6lyt Actually it seems to work the opposite -- I had blanking set to Never and Power Management set to OFF -- setting Power Management ON...

Disable Screen Blanking?

My Tinker-based PiHPSDR blanks the screen after a few minutes until the mouse is moved again -- how can defeat this and have a constant screen?

Re: Asus Tinker Board

I also have Tinker PiHPSDR running with just display, mouse and keyboard (while waiting for the kit). I added a little USB headphone/mic device, and it was straighforward to get headset audio, but I haven't figured out how to get mic input from the USB device to the radio (an 8000) -- how is that do...

Re: Asus Tinker Board

Are other graphics options besides the 7" touch display supported by PiHPSDR with the Tinker board?

Re: RX filter problem

Insertion loss due to mismatch, like a filter approaching cutoff, has less effect on system NF than resistive attenuation -- they are not the same thing.  Are you aware that the very lowest NF amplifiers reach their lowest NF with a very large mismatch?  Conjugate matching is not a guarantee of lowe...
