Re: How to solve latency problems and VAC under/overflows in Windows 10

Despite making the registry changes I'm continuing to have dropouts. I use VAC for RX audio. Sometimes there are blips in RX audio. Sometimes there are temporary disconnects to the hardware and sometimes the software shuts off completely. Restarting Thetis resolves the situation at times. Other tim...

Mike,

They can be used, and their use has not changed at any time during the development of the resampler. They are to manually adjust the resampling rate when the Force box is checked.

Re: thetis PTT spacebar with other window open.

My recommendation is to use serial port PTT. It provides the best ergonomics. 1. Add a serial port to your PC. 2. Assuming the serial port uses a standard 9 pin, D-subminiature, serial port connector, wire up PTT switch will connect pins 7 and 8 together when pressed. This can be a hand switch, foot...

Re: How to solve latency problems and VAC under/overflows in Windows 10

Mark, My understanding is that those adjustments only work when Force is turned on. They are basically a manual method of making the adjustment and were used for testing. They should probably be removed from the UI, and I would expect no effect when allowing the resampler to run normally. You can pr...

Sorry, I did not mean to imply DDUtil is a requirement. I was just using it as another example of a "device" that worked fine, separate from my KPA500. Other examples would be software like WSJT-X. Can you put a terminal emulator on the COM port in place of the amp to see what it is sendin...

Re: How to solve latency problems and VAC under/overflows in Windows 10

Having an app make registry changes just seems wrong. I don't think you'll ever see this built into a Thetis.

There are other ways to automate this, including appropriate .bat or .reg files.

Yes, totally agree, why not be 100% safe and just use a simple switch?

Here is an even less expensive version.

Re: How to solve latency problems and VAC under/overflows in Windows 10

I have been experimenting with this a lot over the last few days. Although my system is, in general, already very well behaved using the default Windows settings, I was able to detect a measurable decrease in audible glitches with Network Throttling turned off. It just took a long time because I don...

Re: How to solve latency problems and VAC under/overflows in Windows 10

A slow, occasional accumulation of under and overflows is not unusual. As long as they are not associated with audible artifacts (pops, clicks, etc.), it is nothing to worry about. If they are rapidly accumulating and you hear glitches then you need to start adjusting your settings, typically buffer...

I am using CAT to DDUtil and a KPA500 amp. With Thetis 2.8.11 I do not see this problem. The band indication stays stable in both DDUtil and the KPA500 when using RIT, TUN or PS-A. Clutching at straws...please post a screen shot Setup > CAT Control, and the CAT+ tab if you are using it. Although I r...

The title should probably be "Thetis and..." because the hardware type doesn't matter.

So are you saying that when you click on one of the buttons in question the amp goes to the wrong band and stays there? Is there any logic to the band it goes to?

I have created a sticky/tacked topic in the Thetis sub-forum. It seemed most appropriate to put it there for greater visibility, rather than in the networking or audio sub-forums.

Changing Windows 10 Network Throttling Index for Better Performance

Many people have found changing the Windows 10 Network Throttling Index setting in the Windows registry produces vastly superior performance by eliminating "Seq" errors, reducing or eliminating audio glitches on both transmit and receive, and improving VAC performance as well. It's not ent...

Re: Help getting 7000/Thetis send band data

John, I don't have one of these gadgets, but looking at the manual for it online it would appear that it has a USB serial "COM" port type connection. If that is correct then: First realize that your "radio" is the combination of both your PC and the hardware that you buy from Apa...

Re: Wait begins....

Mark,

I honestly don't know. I'm pretty sure most everyone is running with hyperthreading on, as I am, so I don't know that anyone's done that comparison. All I know is that the folks with more cores report lower CPU utilization, and I'm making the assumption that that is a good thing.

Re: Wait begins....

That's plenty of machine to make a good radio. However, Thetis loves cores. I'm currently on an i7-7700k 4-core CPU. When I build my next PC it will definitely be an 8-core machine. It typically see about 13% CPU for Thetis by itself. Folks running 8-core machines typically report half that. So you ...

Maybe *average* data rates isn't the issue. Chris, You have to be right, it has to be something else. I'm not trying to fight anyone on this, clearly the change is helping a lot of people. I'd like to understand exactly why. But, that said, I thought it was important to kill off the myth that the d...

I'm sorry, Joe, but it's still demonstrably false that any traffic, UDP or TCP, is limited to 100Mbit/s. Here are two tests I just performed. The first is with network throttling set to FFFFFFFF, which happens to be where I last left it. Then I set the network throttling back to 0000000a and reboote...

Ok, got that, but will it also correct the Amps output as well as the Anans? Yes, that's the entire point of using a feedback signal coupled off of the amp output. PureSignal will make the necessary corrections in order to achieve linearity at the point where the feedback signal is coupled from, in...

Do you have ASIO working with any digital programs like FLDigi, WSJT-X, or JTDX?

Splitting this out as a separate topic from the registry tweaks topic... Fldigi, WSJT-X, and pretty much all other amateur radio software app's, do not provide support for ASIO directly, typically only MME and WDM-KS, although those built with more modern audio libraries may also support DirectSound...
